About / Jonathan Byrne

Hi, I'm
Jonny.

I'm a travel and wildlife photographer based in South Florida. I photograph wild places, distinctive cultures, and the small everyday moments that make a place feel real.

My favorite work starts the slow way: on foot, before sunrise, and with enough patience to wait for weather, wildlife, and light to make up their minds. That approach has taken me across five continents, from the Bolivian salt flats and Peruvian Andes to Japan's pilgrim trails and the fjords of Alaska.

My photography has been featured by the national tourism boards of Bolivia and Peru, and I have sold more than 500 stock licenses. I have visited 31 of the 63 US national parks. Closer to home, I also photograph graduations, engagements, events, athletics, portraits, and brand work.

Off the trail, I am a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician and an ultrarunner. Both reward the same habits as photography: preparation, patience, and staying calm when the conditions are not cooperating.

I am Canadian, from Toronto, and I grew up in Los Angeles. Since then I have lived in New York City for six years, with half a year abroad in Sydney, Australia; spent three months living out of my Jeep traveling the West Coast of the US; traveled South America out of a backpack; lived in Tampa for medical school; and now call Miami, Florida home.
