At last, we have finally made it to our fist stop on this unknowingly long travel experience: Quito, Ecuador. With almost 17 hours of traveling each and a pit stop in Fort Lauderdale and Panama City we are now sitting comfortably in our AirBnB beds.
In an attempt to capture the memories on this trip, Sarah and I have decided that this could be most easily done through writing and photos. And when I say Sarah and I, it’s mainly just Sarah for the writing (except for now because she is asleep taking a nap and I don’t know what else to do right now. So I hope I don’t screw this one up Sarah).
So in this blog we will be outlining some of the highlights of our days whenever we can, some tips and things that we didn’t think of that would be good to know, and combining that with whatever photos each of us end up capturing. So to start off, I guess I can discuss some of the long and interesting journey to get here.
The day started off with early morning wake up calls for each of us but also a surprising realization that Ecuador Immigration wants to have proof of a return ticket or some kind of departure. When checking in, the airlines ask about a return ticket before boarding the flight. In a quick scramble to find something, we managed to book two tickets on a random bus going from Guayaquil to Mancora, Peru. I don’t even know where any of these places are... but we booked it, showed it to the airlines and that was good enough i guess. So now we have two bus tickets to go to Peru on June 13th that will most likely be canceled sometime later when we actually plan out something more.
Anyways, after a few short stops on the way, we finally landed in the Quito Airport! Sarah showed up a couple hours before me so thank you for waiting! From there, we got a quick taxi ride to our AirBnB only to find out that our AirBnB host left us waiting outside the building for 30 minutes at midnight. Here’s the picture:

Eventually, German (our AirBnB host) came to our rescue and let us into this nice apartment where four other travelers are also staying. We promptly ruined any chance of being friends with them by being loud at 2am while we tried to figure out how to turn off the shower. But anyways, here’s the view from our private balcony:

Let’s see how how far we can make it. Wish us luck finding some pollo tomorrow!
