It’s been tough coming from NYC and traveling to other cities. It’s like New York has ruined us. Now every city I head to I just end up comparing it to the greatness that New York has to offer. But, I was open minded and ready to explore Lima! It is known as the gray city because of its constant cloud coverage and very little sun, and that definitely lived up to the hype which was one of the first things I noticed. Another thing I noticed
LIMA AIN’T CHEAP. (At least compared to most of the South American places we’ve been to)
I mean compared to NYC, Lima is still dirt cheap. But, we’ve just been so accustomed to the incredibly low prices, Lima just seemed expensive in comparison. The food, the alcohol, prices in stores. But I couldn’t let something silly like that get to me.
I mean, as y’all already know I value experiences much more than I value money. I guess y’all could call me the big papa in terms of travel rich. Call me never if you need any kind of actual form of currency from me.
So with that, I guess I will recap our few days spent in the largest city in Peru, Lima!
· We arrived on our bus from Huaraz. 9 hours, and that bus ride seemed like a breeze. I guess I really am getting the hang of this whole traveling thing after all. Anyways, got off one stop to early, oh well. Grabbed a cab and zipped over to our AirBnB where we were greeted by some random man who we never saw again, and then finally our host, Elena. Gave her that nice double smooch on the cheek (honestly still not sure if i did it right). Got the tour of the place including this dope view, went out got some chicken, and went to bed.
View from our AirBnB
· Got up and decided to walk to this restaraunt Bao? Yes, it has a question mark, i don’t know why. Walked a couple miles along the beach, got very lost. How do you get lost on the beach you may ask, found ourselves in a construction site, spent ten minutes trying to get out. Finally gave up and ordered what came out to be a 73 cent Uber up the hill to Bao?
· Got lunch at Bao? If you’re ever in the city GO TO BAO? Order the spicy chicken bowl. Eat. Salivate. Find a genie and use all three wishes for three more spicy chicken bowls at BAO?
· Headed over to the local movie theater to watch The Incredibles 2! Found out it was only in Spanish, settled to watch Jurassic World. Which I thought was great, decent acting, fun, great cinematography, but Sarah has some other ideas. Comment below your thoughts!
· Got out of the movie, got ice cream and headed back to our new home girl Elena. (Elena spoke to us for atleast 10 minutes in Spanish, we didn’t get any of it, hopefully it wasn’t important)
· The next morning we got up took an Uber to the city center, checked out some churches. Wow ohhhh old churches, history, religion. IDK
· Ran into a party on the street watching the Japan World Cup game. These Peruvian’s take their soccer pretty seriously (too bad they suck)
· Walked along the ocean, saw some paragliders, saw a slackliner I was going to challenge to a dual until she whipped out an upside down praying mantis pose and I knew I would of gotten my ass kicked.
· Headed to Borranco, the “oasis” everyone to us to go. Honestly don’t get the hype. Got a chicken sandwhich and headed back for a nap.
· Went out for sushi (sarah carefully surgically removed all the cream cheese from our rolls, yours truly carefully removed all the avocado from my rolls) Yes i know were the worst, but hey honestly I can’t think of any good excuse but just let us live our best lives.
· Stood at the gate of the John F. Kennedy Park for the Weekly Lima Bar Crawl Meetup. Awkwardly stood there for 40 minutes saw four people, with the organizer, were too scared to talk to them, followed them to the first bar (wow i really thought I should be worried about people following us when we travel and are out at night in big cities. Who would of thought the tables would be turned) decided we would go on our own.

This is the only picture we got from the night.
· First bar was nice, got a couple of beers, second bar was good. Got in a huge line outside of the second bar not knowing what it was for, not even knowing how to ask what it was for. Waited for about twenty minutes, got into a crowded bar, danced the night away and headed back at midnight cus were old grandmas. (But HA, to all the homies in Europe partying and drinking the night away, look at us now, we’re cool. Just give me validation pls)
· Oh forgot to mention, sometime during this, booked tickets to the amazon rainforest.
· Woke up the next morning, got bug spray and walked half an hour to this small place for breakfast. Struggled to order anything, finally got a beef stir fry. Some woman in a night gown (we’ll call her Carol for now to make it easy) wandered into the restaraunt like the owned the place. Walked up to us and without saying one word stole the plate and food from Sarah. (Yes you heard that right, while we were eating at the table, Carol strolled into the place like she was the president of Peru, took Sarah’s plate with her food and fork, walked to the front of the restaraunt and proceeded to shovel it in her face). Both Sarah and I looked at each other with the same face that screamed “WTF is going on right now.” But I guess the food didn’t fancy Carol enough, because while we were still in shock she came back to cover her food in all the avocado on my plate that i didn’t eat.
You heard it here folks. While yes, be aware of getting pick pocketed, muggeded, or whatever. THE REAL FEAR IS GETTING YOUR MEAL STOLEN RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER YOUR NOSE AT A RESTAURANT IN LIMA BY CAROL. DAMNIT CAROL. I EXPECTED BETTER
· Extremely confused, we pretty much ran out of the restaurant, got a cab and headed off to the airport for our flight to the Amazon where we will be piranha fishing, meeting a sloth, bottle feeding some saved manatees, playing with monkeys, and trying not to get eaten by giant pythons!
Guess we did a lot, I guess Lima was pretty cool to be honest. We only spent a few days there but thanks to Elena and Carol it was a memorable one! But anyways stay tuned for everything above because I’m sure that will make for a great blog post!
Sorry for the late post y’all, but we’ve finally gotten good enough internet here in Arequipa to post something. I’m currrently sitting in the game room of our hostel (the rooms aren’t ready yet) while Sarah and five others are past out on the couches. Anyways, hopefully we can get our Amazon blog up soon! (Still in the drafts) and then we’ll be writing our Paracas and Huacachina blogs! Lots to catch up on! But until next time! I hope you enjoyed reading about our time in Lima, Peru!
