Alright folks, your favorite halfies are back in action after a week of hiking, biking, and traversing the bus system all throughout Ecuador. But today, we have eleven hours before our overnight curfuffle of a bus trip to Peru. So in the meantime, we dropped our laundry off at a laundry mat (i know crazy, I’m doing laundry more often on this trip than I do at home) and now we are sitting in a cafe relaxing and now catching up on this blog.
So to start off with, on our last day in Quito, we took a trip to Mitad del Mundo.
Mitad Del Mundo
So apparently this isn’t the actual middle of the world. The true equator was about 200m north of this location. I guess whenever this was built they realized afterwards that they screwed up and just left it.
The trip started with a brief walk to the bus station and a 40 cent bus ride to the middle of the earth. Yep, a 40 cent bus ride. Upon arriving to the equator we had to pay 5$ to see this fake equator which really wasn’t that worth it.

After exploring the monument, Sarah and I decided to take it upon ourselves to visit the actual middle of the earth, at least what the iPhone told us was the equator which was about 200m north of the monument. Here’s the screenshot and the photo of us at the center of the earth as told by our GPS. Which was surprisingly accurate down to about 10 ft or so.

After our 45 cent bus back to Quito from the equator we decided to stop off at UCE, Universidad Central del Ecuador and check it out. After walking around aimlessly for twenty minutes or so and realizing that these college students were exactly like us, we got caught in a thunderstorm and hid out by some classrooms like the other 40 random Ecuadorian students.

After a solid hour or so went by, we decided to brave the rain and head back to our AirBnB.
