"The camera is the excuse. The trip is the point."
Jonathan Byrne is a travel and wildlife photographer based in South Florida. He documents nature, culture, and everyday life in the places most itineraries skip, from Bolivian salt flats to Japanese pilgrim trails.
His work has been featured by the national tourism boards of Bolivia and Peru, and his stock portfolio has sold more than 500 licenses worldwide. He has visited 31 of the 63 US national parks.
Off the trail, he is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician and an ultrarunner. Both reward the same habits as photography: preparation, patience, and staying calm when the conditions are not cooperating. The camera comes everywhere. The tripod comes when it earns its weight.
